Step by Step guide on How to install granite sink

Those up to the challenge will need the following tools:

  • Grease pencil
  • Ruler
  • Hammer
  • Hand file
  • Drill with 4-millimetre flat bit
  • Jigsaw
  • Center punch
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Plumber’s putty
  • Silicone caulk
  • Clean cloth
  • Drop-in template
  • Cutting the Counter

With the correct tools in hand, you’re ready to get started installing your dream granite drop-in sink. It’s wise to be extra precise during this stage. As your marks and cutting will ultimately determine the success of this entire project. As with anything that requires the use of an automated blade, safety goggles and caution are highly recommended.

Step 1: Draw A Template!

Find the paper template enclosed with sink. Place it on top of the counter in your desired location. Fit the paper into center of your sink’s base cabinet. So that it has at least 3 inches of space in front and in back of the sink. Once this is done, trace outline of the template onto counter using a grease pencil.

Step 2: Draw Two More Lines!

Determine overlap distance by consulting its manufacturer manual located on the sinks template. This will tell you how much of counter must lie beneath the rim of your sink.

Measure the overlap distance. Then use grease pencil to draw a line inwards from the original outline. Redraw a second line with overlap distance in consideration with the inside line. This will be the line which you would cut.

Step 3: Time for Some Drilling!

Now it’s time to use your drill with a 4-millimetre flat bit. Locate the four corners of your interior line markings. Remember, precision is crucial.

Step 4: Get The Jigsaw!

For this step, it’s helpful to enlist the assistance of another person. Insert the blade of your jigsaw into one hole you’ve drilled into corners.

Cut out counter along the interior lines drawn. Use a partner to hold the counter from bottom when you’re cutting. As it ensures that it won’t pull away or splinter during the process.

Step 5: Starting the Installment!

Now that you have your accurately sized hole, it’s time to install the sink. This process is easier than the cutting but requires just as much care and accuracy.

Hold the sink vertically, with its top facing away from you. So that you can see where the faucet holes are located. Typically, you will find several holes with colored tape around them.

Consult manufacturer’s manual for assistance in determining which the correct holes are. Once identified, place a center punch on colored tape of the holes.

Hit the punch with a hammer until the hole pops out. Clean the edges using a hand file to ensure they are completely smooth.

Before going any further, double check that everything has been measured and cut correctly. Lower the sink into counter hole. If it fits well, you’ve done a great job so far.

Step 6:  Fix Faucet & Apply Putty!

Lay the sink on a flat surface with easy access to newly formed holes. Install the faucet by inserting stems into holes. Use a wrench to tighten the bolts.

Next, roll a piece of plumber’s putty until it’s approximately ¼ of an inch in thickness. Once this is done, press it around the sink drain. Make sure it’s evenly distributed.

Press gasket and washer onto the backside of strainer. Turn tightly until they are locked securely in place. Inspect your work by turning the sink over. Any excess putty visible should be wiped away with a clean cloth.

Step 7: Pour Silicone Caulk!

Turn the sink upside down and pour silicone caulk around entire perimeter of rim. Be generous in this process as the caulk will be responsible for holding your sink in place. It should withstand the general wear and tear associated with activity in kitchen.

Step 8: Tightening Clips!

Carefully lower the sink into counter. Before doing so, make sure you’ve located clips below the sink. Rotate them so they contact the bottom of counter. Tighten them using a wrench, to maintain the security and durability of your sink.

Step 9: Admire Your Handiwork!

Wipe away excess caulk that may have seeped outside the perimeter of your sink. Attach water supply lines to the faucet and drainpipe to your sink. Turn on the water and make sure everything is operating properly.

Congrats, You Have Done It!
